WORKOUT #3

THIS WEEK

Go Organic

Finish the month of January strong and go organic in your food choices!

THINGS TO PRACTICE:

1. Finish January Strong. January was all about being consistent in your workouts and your nutrition. How did you do?  It’s not too late.  Make a strong push to be consistent this week with workouts and nutrition and let that carry you into February.
2. Go Organic. We all know that fruits and vegetables are a better choice than grabbing the chips a few aisles down, but not all fruits and vegetables are created equal. How the food is grown plays a big role in its nutritional value. Typically, local produce will be more fresh and nutrient rich than produce imported from out of the country that was picked a month ago. Check out where your produce came from and aim for in season, local varieties. Organic produce is also a big deal.  Often times produce is laden with pesticides and other chemicals during the growing process to keep the crop yield high. Unfortunately, these chemicals work their way into the plant you end up ingesting them when you eat the food.  Certain plants have a better ability to not absorb the chemical pesticides and can still be healthy if you don’t buy the organic variety. Our recommendation is always to go organic when possible, but sometimes certain stores may not carry an organic option of every produce item. In this case, be picky about which produce items you must get organic! As a general rule, produce with thicker skin on the outside tends to be more resistive to absorbing pesticides and other chemicals used on crops. Plants such as spinach without any kind of protective skin should be purchased organic.  Check out the list below of the clean 15 and the dirty dozen fruits and vegetables. Make sure to buy the dirty dozen organic or you could be eating more chemicals than you thought.
